Rep. John Moolenaar newsletter, Jan. 23, 2017

It is an honor to begin the new year and the new term as your Congressman. The year is off to an exciting start and I have a new committee assignment.

Congressman Mike Moolenaar takes listeners’ calls with Art Lewis on WSGW on Jan. 16, 2017.

I have been named to the House Appropriations Committee. This committee will have oversight of government spending. This is an important responsibility and one that I take very seriously. I will fight to make sure government uses taxpayer dollars wisely, stays within its means, and is accountable to the needs of Michigan’s hardworking families.

I will have oversight of some of most important departments and agencies in the federal government, including the IRS, and I will work to ensure that all citizens are treated with respect.

Drain the Swamp

In this new term, I have already voted to fight against the excessive executive rules of the Obama Administration. I did this because many constituents have shared their concerns with me about rules that would raise the cost of their electricity, interfere with their farms, and burden their small businesses.

I voted for the REINS Act, which will ensure that any regulation which costs the American economy more than $100 million must be voted on by Congress and cannot be implemented solely by any president.

I also voted for the Midnight Rules Act which will allow Congress to overturn last-minute rules passed by the outgoing Obama Administration.

This legislation will help us drain the swamp of bureaucracy in Washington that interferes too much in the lives of Americans.

If I may be of assistance to you, please let me know. The phone number in Midland is 989-631-2552, in Cadillac it is 231-942-5070and in Washington it is 202-225-3561.

It is an honor to serve as your representative and I look forward to hearing from you.
