While the Black Lives Matter movement has been trying for the past several years to call attention to the disproportionate use of deadly force against black people — often without any legal repercussion — Michigan Sen. Rick Jones (R-Grand Ledge) wants to focus on the real problem: not violence from police, but violence against police.
The lawmaker is getting ready to introduce a “Blue Lives Matter” law that would classify any violence against a police officer a hate crime. Even “resisting arrest” would qualify as a hate crime. A conviction under the proposed law would result in two additional years added to a prison sentence.
So far, Jones has yet to take any action to hold police accountable when they are responsible for the death of an unarmed civilian.
