This is Sunshine Week, a week that highlights the importance of press freedoms and the challenges reporters and the public face in holding their government accountable.
To mark the occasion, local legislative Democrats have signed on to a plan that would require politicians to make personal financial disclosures, and would require presidential candidates to make tax returns public in order to appear on the Michigan ballot. House Democratic Leader Rep. Sam Singh (D-East Lansing) was among the speakers:

With the financial disclosure, “what we’re trying to deal with are things that are not always well-known,” Singh said.
